About this tool
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and graphics with sharp edges or text. For photographs it produces much larger files than JPG or WebP.
This tool runs your PNG through OxiPNG, which finds a more efficient way to store exactly the same pixels. The image is identical; only the file is smaller.
If the PNG is a photo or you need a much smaller file, change the output to WebP: it keeps transparency and is usually several times smaller than PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my PNG only a little smaller?
Lossless optimization can only remove redundancy, so savings are typically 10–40%. For large savings, convert to WebP (keeps transparency) or JPG (no transparency).
Will transparency be kept?
Yes, when the output is PNG, WebP or AVIF. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The image is decoded, processed and re-encoded entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, which also makes it fast — there is no upload or download wait.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
It's free, needs no account, and never adds a watermark. There is no daily limit; the only practical limit is your device's memory for very large images.
