About this tool
Converting PNG to AVIF produces very small files that keep transparency, great for website graphics and screenshots.
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and graphics with sharp edges or text. For photographs it produces much larger files than JPG or WebP.
AVIF is the newest widely supported image format, based on the AV1 video codec. It usually produces smaller files than WebP at the same visual quality and supports transparency. Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari 16+ display it; encoding is slower than other formats.
The quality slider controls the AVIF compression: 80–90 keeps the image visually identical, lower values make smaller files.

Can I convert multiple PNG files to AVIF at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many PNG files as you like; each is converted to AVIF and you can download them individually or all together as a ZIP.
Will converting PNG to AVIF reduce quality?
AVIF is a lossy format, but at quality 80–90 the difference isn't visible. Use a higher setting if you plan to edit the image further.
What happens to the photo's metadata (EXIF, GPS location)?
The new file is encoded from the image pixels only, so camera details and GPS location stored in the original are not copied over. The photo is rotated correctly before that, so it won't come out sideways.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The image is decoded, processed and re-encoded entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, which also makes it fast — there is no upload or download wait.
